⚠️ What Not to Do:

1. Don’t use too much pressure

High pressure can strip paint, dent siding, and even force water behind walls or into insulation, leading to mold and rot.

  • Use lower pressure (under 1,500 PSI) for siding, stucco, wood, and windows.
  • Reserve higher pressure (2,500+ PSI) for durable surfaces like concrete.

Don’t use harsh chemicals or bleach straight from the bottle

Undiluted cleaners can damage paint, plants, and even corrode metal finishes. Always use cleaner approved for pressure washers and pre-soak plants nearby with water.

4. Don’t skip safety gear

Always wear:

  • Eye protection
  • Gloves
  • Non-slip shoes
  • Avoid ladders — use an extension wand instead (the kickback can make ladders extremely dangerous).

5. Don’t pressure wash certain materials

Avoid high pressure on:

  • Windows and screens — can shatter or warp
  • Asphalt shingles — removes granules, shortening lifespan
  • Electrical panels/outlets — obvious shock hazard
  • Lead paint surfaces — can scatter toxic particles

 Don’t forget to rinse from top to bottom

If you wash bottom-up, dirty water may drip down and leave streaks. Always rinse thoroughly before surfaces dry. 

 

  • Using Too Much Power: Avoid heavy-duty gas washers if a lighter electric model will suffice. High PSI can strip paint or damage delicate materials.

  • Working on a Ladder: Do not use a pressure washer while on a ladder, as the kickback can cause a fall. Use an extension wand instead.
